Hi,

I'm Bruce McNichols. Perhaps you've heard me on Radio OKOM. My buddy, Bill Taggart, created OKOM and OKOM Radio. What brought the two of us together was our love of old-time jazz.

Now that Bill has created this discussion group, it has come out that he and I do NOT see eye to eye, on many things. I like the same kind of music he does. He likes a lot of the kind of music I love. That's the easy part.

The trouble begins when we start trying to define different styles of music. One time on Radio OKOM, Bill played a track from a CD entitled "Brazilian Ragtime." It was not Bill's favorite, to say the least. In fact, he thought that I had played the wrong CD. My take on that one, is that it is indeed Ragtime, though not the Ragtime that might first come to mind. I call it Classic Ragtime.
  As you'll hear (and read) me say often: "That's neither good nor bad." After all "Ya like what ya like, and ya don't like what ya don't like." Who am I to say what's good and what's bad?
Also, who am I to say what's jazz and what's not?

~~~
I don't think that Bill is fond of my expression "Classic Jazz."  I know that I am not fond of his feeling that the term "Trad Jazz" refers to British bands (only).
Dat's what make the world go 'round.  Different Strokes, and all that.
~~~
I've taken a cue from Mr. Taggart, by purposely posting some opinions that I suspect might garner other opinions.

BRING 'EM ON.

McN
