A Real Jazz Treasure in Hartford
My brother Al and I went to the Arch Street Tavern in Hartford last Monday
night to hear the Hartford Jazz Orchestra, formerly known as the Chick Chicetti
Orchestra. This 17-piece Jazz Orchestra is lead by pianist Donn Trenner.
Donn was music director for Ann Margaret, Steve Allen, and Bob Hope, to name a
few. The band is absolutely fabulous, and singer Bobbi Rogers is better than
ever. No cover, no minimum, just walk in and enjoy, every Monday night,
8-10PM. Go to www.archstreettavern.com for details.
Special Jazz Concert in Deep River, produced by Stu Ingersoll, Sunday, Feb
24th 3-5pm at Valley Regional High School, Kelsey Hill Road, Deep River, CT.
It's the Northeast Traditional Jazz Ensemble with Scott Philbrick cornet, Dan
Levinson reeds, Herb Gardner trombone, Jimmy Mazzy banjo and vocals, Art
Hovey tuba and string bass, Robin Verdier piano, Ed Stockmal drums, Jane
Campadelli vocals. WOW, WHAT A LINEUP!! For ticket information call 526 9681 or 767
4904.
Special Appearance, Sunday, March 2, 6:30PM at Chow, 964 Chapel Street, on
the New Haven green, behind Zinc. It's Joel Schiavone, Noel Kaletsky, and Andy
Rubenoff, a trio, in a performance entitled "That's what I like about the
South". The $20 admission includes food - something more than hors doeurves,
but not quite a dinner. There is only room for 60 people so call 203-772-3002
now for reservations, or to get on the waiting list!
Bill Logozzo's Heartbeat Jazz Band will be at Olivers in Essex on Thursday,
Mar 6th, 7-10PM, with Skip Hughes! This is a great spot, nice casual
atmosphere, and good food at a reasonable price. Of course the music is hot hot hot!
Dancing too! Look for them at Olivers usually on the first Thursday of each
month. Contact Bill Logozzo at Bill at nutmegchrome.com or
www.heartbeatjazzband.net for information on the band and how to order CDs.
SUNDAYS at Marisa's in Trumbull!
We'll be there on Sunday, April 6th, 2008, 6-8:30, with guest trombonist Neil
DeFeo! Remember, there is no cover or minimum at Marisa's, but because the
food is fabulous, you're going to want to order dinner. There's dancing too!
Marisa's is very easy to get to: take the Merritt Parkway toward Trumbull, get
off at Exit 48, head north for about 3 miles, and it's on your right. This
is a good size restaurant, with plenty of seating and parking, and a nice
dance floor too. Marisa's address is 6540 Main Street, Trumbull, CT 06611. The
telephone number is 203-459-4225. Call now for reservations!
